Perspective

Walmart’s vast.

I get lost in there for hours. I run in for toothpaste; I leave with clothes. I go for milk; I buy a bedspread. And if I going during daylight, it’s night when I leave.

The place is that big.

But Sunday it wasn’t so big and bad.

It was small, miniscule, dot-like. And I barely recognized the big W-A-L-M-A-R-T across the front. I was flying.

After four days in Baltimore, I returned home Sunday evening. As the plane lowered for landing, the landscape below came into view and there was Wal-Mart. It hadn’t changed. It was still gray or light blue with the dark blue, red and white lettering. It was still vast with clothing, tires, cereal, garbage cans, notebook paper and Oreos on the inside. But, something was different.

My perspective.

In the air, Wal-Mart looked less mighty. It was just a rectangle with big letters. And the parking lot, which drives us all crazy, was just a maze with little toy cars moving about. It was all so small, so tiny - it almost wasn’t worth focusing on. There were other things – trees, clouds, lakes, land – more beautiful and compelling to gaze at.

And I had a thought: problems are like Wal-Marts.

They only seem big when you’re right up on them or in the midst of it. But, if you change your perspective - focus on other things - they get tinier and tinier.

The word speaks to this.

Check out Isaiah 40:31-32. It reads, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Now, you’re thinking, “Huh?”

Typically, this verse is used to encourage those who are waiting on something from the Lord. And, that’s an acceptable application. But recently, I heard it preached a whole new way and it opened my eyes to God’s way of handling problems.

Take a look at the text. Focus on the word “upon.” The minister, Thomas Beavers, explained that it’s made of two words, “up” and “on.” So, the scripture read, “But they that wait UP ON the LORD shall renew their strength.”

Watch that.

To wait UP-ON something means you climb UP and ON it. I climbed up and on that plane and my whole perspective of Wal-Mart changed. If we climb up and on God our lives will change. When we climb up and on Jesus, our problems get smaller, tiny. There not even worth looking at anymore. Ladies, think about God Most High. He’s sitting on his thrown looking low and He sees your water bill. Do you think He’s worried? Do you think He’s wondering how He’s going to pay Tosha’s bills?

If so, you should change God’s: yours is tripping.

My God said let there be light – and there was light.

My God separated the heavens from the earth – and it was so.

So surely he can pay the water bill. He’s sitting high and looking low at all these things we call problems – and they’re such small things to Him. Not because he doesn’t care, but because He knows He’s already provided the solutions to them. Ladies, it’s already all right. Step away from the problem. Climb UP and ON Daddy’s lap and wait for him to work it out. Don’t even look down there at it anymore. Focus on all His wondrous creations – family, friends, laughter, good health, newborn babies, sunrises, sunsets, running rivers, smiles. And let Him renew you.

Check out the rest of that verse.

While you wait Up and ON the Lord, He’s going to renew your strength. You’re going to mount up with wings as eagles; You’ll run, and not be weary; and You’ll walk, and not faint. Ladies, you can run and not get weary because the problem won’t be dragging you down. You can walk and not faint because you’re not saddled with the cares of this world.

Ladies, let go of whatever’s got a hold of you. Change your perspective. Climb Up and ON the father’s lap, and let him work it out. Just sit back, rest and let him guide you in for a safe landing. And when you get on the ground, know that you’re equipped, capable, loved and cherished. Because guess what, Ladies? There are Wal-Marts everywhere. But in God’s hands, not even a Super-Super Wal-Mart can bring us down.

Know that I love you each, L.
